John Van Bergen

John moved to Somerset in 2001 with his late wife, Chris. They were escapees from Surrey’s commuter-lands having ventured forth in search of a place to put down roots. John is a forthright and hearty Dutchman, loving any opportunity to speak his native Dutch. “Wij spreken nederlands!”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″ type=”column”][vc_column_text]

Potting Shed Country

After much journeying and searching Chris and John discovered Harters Hill Cottage in Coxley, Somerset. Instantly, they recognised the hearth that they were looking for, a beautiful home, built in 1680, in the quiet heart of Somerset…

… the ancient Summerland of the Celts, richly steeped with history, legend and mystery – peaceful, beautiful and half forgotten, a truly mythic landscape.

Their holiday cottages

have a touch of grace and graciousness which resided firmly in Chris, reflecting her early career as a professional ballet dancer. Both had been professional florists and keen gardeners. This is evident in the charm and style of the gardens surrounding the cottages. Sadly Chris died in 2012 but her style and vision continue here to this day.

All this…….

And at the bottom of the garden, you’ll find the pure luxury of the fully heated indoor Garden Spa![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
